A Note from Future You: Spoiler Alert, You’re Gonna Wish You Listened

Good morning and happy Monday! Hope you had an amazing weekend and made the most of that extra hour. A special shoutout to our Worthyest readers who shared their weekend plans and ideas with us. Have a fantastic week!

A Note from Future You: Spoiler Alert, You’re Gonna Wish You Listened

Imagine this: it’s 10 years from now, and you've grown in ways you can’t quite see yet. You’ve faced challenges, had triumphs, and learned a ton along the way. Now, with all that hard-won wisdom, you’re looking back at your current self—at who you are right now, today. What would your future self want you to know? What advice, gentle nudges, or encouragement would they give you to guide you forward? This isn’t just an exercise in imagination; it’s a powerful way to get perspective on what truly matters.

Let’s walk through how to “write” that letter from your future self to the person you are now, and see what insights you might uncover.

What Would Future You Say?

Picture it: you're sitting across from your future self, maybe over coffee or tea. What’s the first thing they’d want to tell you?

  1. “You’re going to be okay, even when things get tough.”
Future You knows something you don’t yet—they know that things worked out. So if you’re in a season of stress or uncertainty, they’d probably tell you to breathe, to trust, and to stop letting worry take up so much space. They might remind you that the tough times didn’t define you; they shaped you.

  2. “Don’t sweat the small stuff—it really won’t matter.”
Those little annoyances and setbacks you’re dealing with? Future You would likely laugh about them, saying, “Remember when you were so worried about that?” And, of course, you’d roll your eyes and laugh too because it all turned out fine. So maybe it’s time to loosen your grip on those small worries and focus on what you really care about.

  3. “Spend more time with the people who lift you up.”
Future You has the gift of hindsight, and they’d probably say, “Make time for your people.” Friendships, family, partners—whatever those relationships look like for you, Future You knows that these are the moments that matter most. The work, the errands, the busy stuff will always be there. The people? Not always.

  4. Invest in what makes you come alive.”
Future You might remind you that life’s too short not to follow your passions. Maybe there’s a hobby you want to take up or a career path you’re itching to explore. Future You has already done it and is grateful for the time spent on things that made you feel alive and vibrant.

Putting Your Future Self’s Wisdom into Action

Now, what’s the point of hearing this advice if we don’t do anything with it? Let’s make it real with a few simple actions you can take right now.

  • List the Small Things to Let Go Of: Write down a few small things you’re currently stressed about. Are they worth your energy? If not, let Future You give you the green light to let them go.

  • Prioritize Quality Time: Take Future You’s advice to heart. This week, set a date or make time for people you love—maybe that friend you’ve been meaning to call or a family member who needs a little extra love.

  • Start a Tiny Habit that Reflects Your Passion: If you’ve been wanting to dive into something new, take a small step this week. Future You would tell you to start small because they know that’s all it takes to grow into something bigger.

And Finally, Embrace the Journey

Remember, the goal isn’t to have everything figured out—that’s Future You’s job! Your job is to live fully now, to move forward with intention, and to find joy in becoming the person you want to be. So, whenever life feels overwhelming or uncertain, think about what Future You might say to guide you.

Write that letter, listen to the advice, and see what happens when you start living in a way that would make your future self proud.

This is how we live our Worthyest life.
