So. Monday. We Meet Again. Can We Ever Be Friends?
Good Monday Morning, Hope you had an awesome weekend. Here’s some motivation to get you through the week. Don’t forget to 'Spread the Word'. See the details below.
Today’s newsletter is inspired by a quote from Julio Alexi Genao: “So. Monday. We meet again. We will never be friends — but maybe we can move past our mutual enmity toward a more-positive partnership”
So. Monday. We Meet Again. Can We Ever Be Friends?
Ah, Monday. The day that greets us with a fresh to-do list, a full inbox, and the lingering question of why weekends are so short. Let's be honest — Mondays and I have never gotten along. We’re like two characters in a sitcom who keep bumping into each other but will never, ever be friends. You know the type: lots of eye-rolling, heavy sighs, and a mutual understanding that we’ll tolerate each other because we have to. But maybe, just maybe, we’ve been going about this all wrong.
Monday’s Bad Reputation
For most of us, Mondays come with a heavy sigh. It’s the day where the weight of the workweek begins, and any dreams of a peaceful, endless Sunday are shattered by the sound of an alarm. There’s this automatic response that kicks in the moment we realize Monday’s arrived — dread, irritation, even a little bit of sadness. It’s not that Monday is inherently bad; it’s that we’ve assigned it this overwhelming aura of negativity.
But here’s the thing: Mondays are just a day. An unavoidable one, sure, but it’s not like they go out of their way to ruin your life. So why are we treating them like an arch-nemesis instead of a potentially useful acquaintance?
Redefining the Relationship
I’m not saying you have to fall in love with Mondays — let’s be real, that’s probably never going to happen. But what if we could turn this love-hate relationship into something a little less dramatic and a little more productive?
Consider this: Mondays are a fresh start. All those things you meant to do last week but didn’t get around to? Here’s another chance. And maybe that’s where we can find some common ground. Mondays don’t have to be this monumental hurdle we dread jumping over. They can be the stepping stone to resetting our goals, intentions, and mindset.
The “New Beginning” Mindset
You know how people get all excited about New Year’s resolutions? Well, why not treat Mondays the same way? Instead of looking at Monday as the start of a long and grueling workweek, look at it as a mini New Year — a chance to reset, reflect, and start fresh. Didn’t quite nail it last week? No worries, Monday’s got your back. It’s offering you another go at it.
Sure, the inbox might be overflowing, and the to-do list might look like a novel, but Monday brings opportunity. It’s like hitting the reset button, whether that’s on your productivity, your mindset, or even your attitude toward the rest of the week. And while it may never be our favorite day of the week, it could at least stop being the day we dread the most.
Monday as Your Accountability Partner
If we’re being honest, maybe Monday is just trying to keep us accountable. After all, it’s the start of the week, the natural checkpoint for all the goals and tasks we said we’d get done. Maybe Monday isn’t the villain here; it’s just the mirror we don’t want to look into after a weekend of procrastination.
What if we flipped that narrative? Instead of dreading the accountability that Monday demands, we could welcome it as a chance to get things back on track. Monday might not always be fun, but it’s useful. It’s the friend who doesn’t let you slack off — and let’s face it, we all need that sometimes.
Making Peace with Monday
So, here we are. Another Monday. We may never be best friends — that’s a lot to ask. But we don’t have to be mortal enemies either. Monday can be that co-worker you don’t love but secretly respect. You may not want to grab coffee with them, but you know they’ve got something to offer.
Maybe that’s the key: turning our mutual enmity into something more like a partnership. Because let’s face it, Monday’s not going anywhere. So, instead of fighting it, why not learn to work with it? Who knows, you might just find that Monday’s not so bad after all.
The Bottom Line?
Monday doesn’t have to be your favorite, but it can be your fresh start. It’s a blank slate, an accountability check, and a reminder that no matter how last week went, you’ve got another shot to make things happen. And hey, if nothing else, once you get through Monday, you’re one day closer to Friday.
