The Spare Key
Good Morning.
We all carry reminders of what’s behind us. Some stay useful, others just stay. Look at your keyring and you’ll probably find one you haven’t used in years. Life is full of those kinds of remnants.
The Keys We Carry Anyway
Most of us carry a key we’ll never use again. It hangs on the ring anyway, tied to a door that may no longer exist.
Life works the same way. We hold on to things we’ve outgrown, old roles, past relationships, versions of ourselves that no longer fit. Most of the time, they weigh nothing. But their presence matters. They remind us of where we’ve been and suggest that what’s closed today might not be closed forever.
The point isn’t whether you’ll ever walk back through those doors. It’s knowing you could. That quiet possibility softens the edge of finality, showing that closure and continuation can coexist.
And sometimes, even if we never use them again, carrying those “spare keys” helps us move forward with more confidence. They remind us that life isn’t about locking things away, but about holding space for what was, what is, and what might still return.
